And finally, here are some recent images.

Yes, I am still on hiatus as I concentrate on my transition into commercial photography (I love it) — only taking on a few past clients as my schedule allows.

Although this blog will no longer be updated — I do hope to have a separate blog for my commercial work in the near future.

Of course, my work will still be posted on the Reverie Blog.

Until then,

I have had this project in my heart for well over a year. I’m not claiming it’s original or hasn’t been done before, but I will say with confidence is that it was born from a place of my heart that I cherish. A place of purity and devotion. I cannot draw, I do not own a paint brush, but I have my camera.

I love my country.

I do not love the direction she is headed. More than anything, I would love to see her brought back to her former days, more along the lines of what our founding fathers had intended.

There is always hope. There is another generation and I consider it an honor to raise up my son to be a man who respects God, his elders, and his country. To know what it stands for and why it needs protecting.

The other day my son told me “he wanted to be in a battle” and to “be a hero”. Of course, as his mother I wanted to yell,“stay safe, no!”. But I kept my fears to myself — we need a nation of men and women who are weary of “safe”.

__________________________________________________

“Where will our country find leaders with integrity, courage, strength—all the family values—in ten, twenty, or thirty years?

The answer is that you are teaching them, loving them, and raising them right now.” — Barbara Bush

{ About the Images Below }

These images are dedicated to my God, first and foremost, and to my country. A love-song, in imagery form, as to what it means to be an American. Dare I say a Patriot.

Lastly, my prior military husband helped me with this session and we were sure to protect and respect the flag during the shoot.

Still playing catch-up on the blog. I super love urban shoots and don’t get enough of them. Where I live they are harder to come by because so much of California is either done up in stucco or some shade of brown. Not very inspiring. These images are from a recent trip to my hometown Pittsburgh.

And that green chair? Talk about an awesome find. I originally walked passed it in the antique store believing the price tag said “$450″ so I kept walking. {I suppose I’m used to “California prices”} But my sweet husband gave it another look only to discover it was only $45. Whaaah? Gets even better. We carried it to the register and the guy immediately said, “I’ll give that to you for $35!” Sold.

To those who are feeling a bit jealous of my chair let me tell you that thing was heavy! During this session I was sans Gary (my husband) who normally carries all my heavies without batting an eyelash. This time, however, I had to lug it around and boy oh boy, glad we found a great spot right near where we were parked. Thank you Pennsylvania for your cheap prop finds!

Let me ask – what is your favorite prop find?

BTW, I primarily used actions from Florabella. Click here to visit Florabella Collection.

Recently, I was able to do a shoot in a local junkyard. Fun, fun. However, the rules had to change a bit in order to do so. First, had to show up hours earlier than I normally would have shot due to the junkyard’s business hours. No problem, I can work around the blazing California sun. Second, with the hot sun and cloudless sky, factor in hundreds of reflective old windshields and semi-rusted metal car parts and what you get is a perfect storm of even hotter temps and subjects who can’t help but squint their eyes due to the light bouncing from surface to surface. Very little mercy from the light! Lastly, the safety factor — a junkyard can often be thought of as a “tetnus shot waiting to happen”, but these kiddos were older and respectful of the rules. (Those who know me know I’m a stickler for safety at sessions.)

All in all, we got through it just fine and had a lot of fun doing it! These girls were so polite and helpful, as was their Mother (thanks again).

So, you may have noticed I haven’t been blogging lately. Well, I’ve been a busy woman … preparing for MY wedding! Not only planning a wedding, but planning from California for a wedding to be held in Pennsylvania.Thankfully, my son’s school has a program like homeschooling for kids who need to miss school longer than five days – so he was able to head out with me to be with family and help get things ready three weeks before the wedding. The rich autumn colors and cooler temps can really spoil you!

My husband, Gary, and I both have a love of the country so we thought we’d incorporate a country look and feel into our special day. Especially for me as I miss the lush fields and run down barns that I am used to back East. For the most part, quite a different world here in SoCal (not hating on CA as I can shoot outdoors here all year long – nice!). Our ceremony was held in a historic mennonite meetinghouse and our reception was down the road in a big red barn. Both were built in the early 1800’s and needed a lot of cleanup beforehand, but we had a great crew to get things done (thanks to Gary, Josh, Carrie & the folks at the museum).

Getting ready for the details of the wedding … well let’s just say I actually need a break from antique shops (did I just say that?) because I hit up so many looking for the perfect elements to add. Now that our big day has passed, we have more quilts, candles, apple crates and the like than we know what to do with. Don’t even get me started on the mason jars (which we used for drinking glasses). Also, I couldn’t have done it without Etsy – tons of farm-inspired treasures there!

Major props to our fabulous photographers Leigh Taylor and second shooter Beth Armsheimer – working with them was so much fun. Even when my veil was left behind at the hotel (and arrived literally as I was headed to the ceremony – thanks Holly!) they were there to calm my nerves and tell me “this is normal” and they were right …all was okay, more than okay … it was a dream.

I’ll leave you with a portion of a favorite quote we included in our wedding programs:

“When you make a promise, you tie yourself to other persons by the unseen fiber of loyalty. You agree to stick with people you are stuck with. When everything else tells them they can count on nothing, they can count on you. When they do not have the faintest notion of what in the world is going on around them, they will know that you are going to be there with them. You have created a small sanctuary of trust within the jungle of unpredictability: you have a made a promise that you intend to keep.” – Lewis Smedes

Be blessed.

This year I was able to spend almost two months in my home state of Pennsylvania. These images are from the first visit earlier in August. A highlight was going to the Steeler game with Isaiah. Steelers beat the Lions (yay), but a severe thunderstorm rolled in mid-game and Isaiah and I spent the rest of the game crammed inside with thousands of our “closest friends”.

Below are some images of my little brother (we are 21 years apart) and my son together. We try (and usually succeed) to get images of them together every year. Of course, you know how it can be photographing boys …especially boys who know you well (you know what I’m talking about). And especially on a stinky farm with lots of cows that make all sorts of sounds and noises. Fun times.

Seriously though. I’m bummed I didn’t get much of my son alone this year in PA as his ones from last year are some of my all time favorite images of him, but there’s plenty of warm weather here in California for another shoot.

For this first shot, I’m showing you the version before I edited out my “oops!” moment. We all have them, though thankfully, I have them much less. I left the plastic clothing sticker on his shirt. That will be edited out before printing. {wink}

Another one of my 100 degree sessions, but you’d never know it with this little one. Even with those long gorgeous locks, she was a trooper in the heat. Me, not so much (I must have downed three juice boxes). Before each session I look forward to getting to know the child I will be photographing — she was so friendly, inquisitive and loved to answer any question I dared ask (some kids sit and stare at me for a least a few questions … which I don’t blame them).

This first image cracks me up! About sums up how I feel about using balloons in sessions these days. I haven’t used them in quite awhile as they are forever in the wrong spot. In all honesty, I’m sure I’ll balloons a chance again soon enough. I find in working with kids, you have to be ready for anything!

Still playing catch up here … I’ll never forget this shoot as it was session number three in a row during our week of 100+ degree temps here in SoCal. This particular shoot was a brutal 103 at 5:30pm and I was without my usual assistant — set up and tear down was intense, to say the least. But, as so many photographers can relate, it’s about the end results – I love the vintage look. Each piece has been bought and collected from various antique stores, yard sales, flea markets and so forth. One day soon I’ll post some shots of how all my chairs are stored (an attempt at organization).

And those of you who have been following my blog for awhile know how much I adore red-heads ….it almost feels like a crime to convert their beautiful hues into black and white format!

First, I must show off my new chair …. a good chair (at a good price) is hard to find in SoCal and I have been looking for well over a year for an upholstered chair to use in my shoots. Living back East I was spoiled by the selection of chairs at bargain prices.
