The Apple

Inspiration is all around you, and often does not fit into the mold of what typically inspires. Myself, I am inspired by color schemes, clothing items, vintage fabrics, lighting, locations, antique shops, the list goes on! The inspiration behind this series of images came from a size 5 vintage blue dress I purchased for $20. On a whim, I grabbed a few apples on my way out the door.

For a four year old this little guy had some serious personality! Loved his fun attitude and posing ideas. And loved the funky hat and bright red bike his Mom brought to the shoot! For this shoot it was crazy busy with people, but with a few creative angles and a wide aperture I was able to give the impression, hopefully, we were the only ones there.

Back East

These were taken on our trip back to Pennsylvania and Ohio to visit family this past fall. We were blessed to hit the peak of the leaves. Although this week the weather in California has been downright terrible (which is rare), I am glad I am not back east in the freezing temps and cold snow!

You would think with all the barns abound one could find one to rent for a wedding reception (there’s only one in the immediate area of Pittsburgh that I can find) — if anyone knows of any farm or rustic places available for rent, please let me know!

My son is pretty easy to photograph; I suspect only due to the fact that I don’t take him out to do “shoots” as much as I did years back. When I lived back east I took for granted how easy it was to find shooting locations. In many places you couldn’t throw a rock without it landing on a potential shoot spot. California makes you work a bit harder; though I will say this, in California I can do outdoor work all year long!

The first one is my absolute favorite. How can I possibly choose which ones to print and how large? Perhaps put a gallery wall together. The blue tractor was at the bed & breakfast we stayed at in NE Ohio — they also had a beaten up old ladder fire truck and a run down property next door too. Loved it!

the Hat

I know, I know, I’ve got to stop using “the hat” in my sessions. (There’s no really one “hat”, there are many hats, lol) But you know what, I love my hats and I plan on ridin’ this look out until I get tired of it, thank you very much. *Wink* I’m always on the hunt for a new inspiration, a new look … as a someone in the creative field you have to be, but for now, I’m cozying up right here for this look.

Remember Her?

Her parents first brought her to me when she was three years old; she was all eyes and had curly curly hair. View her old photo here. No more curls, but as beautiful as ever. And sweet too. When I arrived at our session she gave me a sparkly paper lollipop she made at school just for me. *Smile*

Also, this is my first series of images from our fall trip back to Pennsylvania. Beautiful as ever! Gary, my son and I had an amazing trip visiting friends and family as well as photographing old (and some new) PA clients. Not to mention hitting some old fave antique shops (like my $15 blue chair?). I miss back east, but to tell you the truth, this time of year I love living in California (it was 74 degrees and sunny today!).

Lastly, I will be in the Pittsburgh area more in 2010 and accepting new clients — if you are interested in a session (children only) in late July or October please contact me. Otherwise, further information on PA sessions will be posted on the blog in the next month or two.

Still playing catch up with my new blog. This first image proves that good light can be in the most boring of places. I wish I took a pulled back shot; however, trust me, nothing special but a pocket of gorgeous, soft backlight on the side of a crowded road. The second set of images, thankfully, I had more to work with location-wise.

Fleeting Light

The light was beautiful on this day, but it made us (girl’s Mom and I) work for it. I had many more ideas for my new prop, but after running to our next spot only to have the sun dip behind the hills — my ideas would have to wait for another day. As fleeting as it may be, there is nothing like the last hour of golden sunset. Perhaps it is the light’s elusiveness that drives a photographer’s desire for it all the higher. I know that for me, a session is not complete without a few images bathed in golden, soft sunshine.

Model Shoot

Catching up on the blog with a model shoot I did. Very excited to be back in the swing of things and catch up with all my blog readers. Thank you for stopping by!

Also, this was my first shoot with my new camera (of course, I was sure I was comfy with the new diggs before its debut) – I am so in love! I am a Nikon-girl, forever! When I first started out just about six years ago it was on a Canon film body, but then I borrowed someone’s F5 with an 85 1.4 and was sold. The following week I purchased my own F5 and other than a small three month fling with a Canon 5D (which I was very unhappy with and once I picked up a friends D200 I sold the 5D that night and purchased my own D200 — this was a few years back), I’ve stuck with Nikon.

Lastly, check out the find my Gary got at a garage sale for me … the bike for $35!
